Mixing business and pleasure in Chi-town

I just returned from a quick business trip to Chicago. Most of the time when a brand invites me to join them, I hop on a plane, spend a day or two attending meetings, try to cram as much information into my brain as I possibly can, fight off sleep to squeeze in a little fun, and then head home. Not this time! This time a well known brand invited me to Chicago to attend a meeting and kick off event of a new campaign that I was asked to be a part of. The entire weekend was very well put together. A very informative, and to the point meeting, followed by a fun, no need to drag this out all day event. Which was a real treat because this was the first time my husband accompanied me on a business trip. We stayed an extra night and enjoyed a day in the city together. Chicago is a fabulous city. We had a great time!

I just pulled out of a pretty big promotion because I’m uncomfortable with some of the content. I’ve enjoyed working with this PR company in the past and really hope to work with them again in the future. Only, I don’t think my decision went over very well. Which is really upsetting.
I’m reminding myself this morning that it’s important to feel good about the work I do and the content I provide, and of course how it is used. I refuse to compromise any of values, big or small, for a paycheck. Even if this means I see less paychecks in my future.
